(ECNS) — China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun announced on Monday that a total of 3,125 Chinese nationals have been safely evacuated from Iran, marking the completion of a large-scale, government-organized operation amid regional instability.
"In line with decisions made by the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and with the joint efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese embassies and consulates in Iran and other countries, as well as the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Administration, a total of 3,125 Chinese nationals have been safely evacuated from Iran," Guo said.
Among the evacuees were infants as young as 10 months old, elderly citizens over 70 years of age, as well as residents from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Guo confirmed that all Chinese citizens in Iran who expressed a desire to leave have now been relocated to safe areas.
In addition to operations in Iran, Guo noted that China's embassy in Israel has helped more than 500 Chinese nationals safely depart the country. Chinese diplomats also assisted in the relocation of several foreign nationals, including citizens of the United Kingdom, India, and Poland.
Guo expressed China's heartfelt appreciation to the governments of Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Turkey, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, and Jordan for their crucial support during the evacuation process.
He added that some Chinese nationals have opted to stay in the region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to urge them to prioritize their safety. Chinese diplomats in both Iran and Israel remain on duty and will continue to offer necessary assistance to nationals still in the area. (By Evelyn)
